Georg Pinsel
The animation studio Amnion created the artwork “Woodwork” using digital technology to bring to life the famous Baroque sculptor Georg Pinsel’s sculpture “Crucifix”. Pinsel originally created the sculpture for the high altar of the Church of All Saints in the late 1750s. The sculpture portrays the lifeless body of Jesus on the cross, with a petrified face and arms stretched like strings.
Instead, the artwork “Woodwork” invites viewers to imagine Jesus as a weary model posing for a sculptor. The model takes a break for only a few seconds to stretch and warm up their strained muscles.
